I'm curious about things.

Today's Thankful Thursday is shout out to Bob McDonald. He was my introduction to television/media that wasn't strictly a source of entertainment, but also enlightened and educated the audience while maintaining that entertainment value. After I discovered it, at around 9 years of age, Wonderstruck became more looked forward to than Thundercats or Scooby Doo.

He shared an enthusiasm about learning and critical thinking to which I have never seen an equal. There was a genuine passion in every episode... an excitement about learning, and teaching that came through so clearly in his presentation. He taught us how to make all-natural toothpaste long before organic was commonplace on grocery store labels and was perhaps the first televised myth-buster.

Perhaps I'm romantisizing this all a little, as I haven't seen the show since I was 9, but in my head and thinking back, that's how it happened - and that's all that matters. This Thursday, I'm thankful for Bob McDonald and the message he imparted to the 9-year-old Canadian Mark. It's a message he opened every show with: "I'm curious about things. Why they are the way they are, and why they're not something else."
